Hope chairman named Young Entrepreneur of the Year
Amit Bhatia honoured to receive prestigious accolade in 2013 Asian Business Awards
AMIT Bhatia, chairman of Hope Construction Materials and founder of Swordfish Investments, has been crowned the Young Entrepreneur of the Year for 2013 at the Asian Business Awards.
The London-based businessman, who has a string of entrepreneurial successes to his name, fought off stiff competition from a number of high-profile nominees.
The awards, which have been recognizing Asian business achievement for 16 years, were held in London last week, with Home Secretary Theresa May presenting Mr Bhatia with his accolade.
Amit founded Hope Construction Materials, the UK’s new leading independent supplier of concrete, cement, aggregates and asphalt, at the start of this year and now leads a workforce of more than 800, working across over 170 plants spread across Britain.
In the short space of time since the launch of the company, Hope have won several key contracts and say they are aiming for further growth and success this year.
Mr Bhatia was overwhelmed to win the award: ‘It is a great, unexpected honour and I am delighted, especially given the wealth of talented Asian entrepreneurs in this country,’ he said.
‘I guess I am like other entrepreneurs in always looking for an exciting new challenge and I have found that with Hope Construction Materials. The quality of our people and the level of service we are determined to offer makes me confident for the future. Our first few months have been very encouraging.’
Kalpesh Solanki, managing editor of the Asian Media & Marketing Group that organizes the Awards, said: ‘The Asian Business Awards recognize and reward excellence in business. Amit is an outstanding winner having achieved great success in both business and his community work. He is a model for aspiring entrepreneurs.’
