Wastecycle appoint new head of health and safety

Alison Cook

Alison Cook takes on newly created role to help make every day a safe day for staff and visitors

AS part of their ongoing commitment to ensure every day is a safe day for their staff and visitors, East Midlands-based resource management and recycling company Wastecycle have appointed Alison Cook as head of health and safety.

She joins the firm from the Health and Safety Executive (HSE), where she spent 14 years working with different industries. Having recently achieved an MBA from Cranfield University, she left HSE to start her own consultancy business.

Wastecycle, who have sites in Nottingham and Leicester, initially commissioned Ms Cook to work on a six-month project, the results of which led the company to create the new position for her.

‘I am really pleased to be working with Wastecycle and I’m looking forward to helping the company to continuously improve its risk control,’ she said. ‘I strongly believe that everyone has the right to go home from work in the same condition that they arrived. My background of 14 years with the regulator means I know the devastating impact a workplace incident causes.

‘I am looking forward to using my skills and knowledge to focus upon workers’ safety and health at Wastecycle. This is a great opportunity for me to work for part of a private limited company and I’m very much going to enjoy working with the senior management team here to ensure the company’s motto of ‘Making Every Day A Safe Day’ continues.’

Paul Needham, Wastecycle’s managing director, added: ‘We decided to create and offer the new position of head of health and safety to Alison after she impressed us during a consultancy project.

‘She had a very positive impact throughout the business in a short space of time and both myself and the board are looking forward to seeing the further improvements Alison will develop at Wastecycle.’
