Volvo loaders for Alresford

At Alresford Sand & Ballast Co. Ltd's Villa Farm Quarry, bulk excavation to stockpile is the preferred method of extraction, which is sub-contracted as and when necessary.

To process the material, a new Powerscreen washing plant has been installed. Incorporating a logwasher, the plant provides maximum recovery of clay-bound material at a rate of 100 tonnes/h, producing 40mm, 20mm and 10mm stone and sharp sand to BS882.

Feeding the plant on a continuous basis is one of two new Volvo L90C loading shovels. Fitted with a 2.5m3 bucket and boom suspension, the machine is tasked with keeping the plant running for a full 8h shift. The second machine is used for stocking out and loading. The L90C is a 160hp, 15-tonne wheel loader offering high productivity and operator comfort.

The wheel loaders join three other L90 machines already operating at Alfresford quarries.
