Volvo CE develop talent in China

New North China Competence Development Centre to educate young people in technician training

LOCATED in Zhengzhou in the Henan Province, Volvo Construction Equipment’s new Competence Development Centre was recently launched at a lively ceremony held in conjunction with the local college, Henan Transportation Department and Volvo dealers Henan Wontong and their parent company Henan Tonguan.

Educating and supporting future generations has always been important to Volvo CE, and the company’s reputation for developing new talent and leadership of the future has been strengthened with the opening of the new Chinese centre. The facility will provide first-rate technician training for talented young individuals seeking industry experience.

Owing to rapid urbanization in China, the construction equipment industry is developing quickly. According to a five-year plan, the annual growth average for engineering machinery is projected to be more than 17%, while the annual output will be more than US$900 billion.

Construction machinery will be a driving force of the Chinese equipment manufacturing industry and with the new Competence Development Centre, Volvo CE aim to support the sustainable development of construction machinery industry and to support the young local community in China.

The company’s competence development programme was launched in 2010 with centres opening in north-west and north-east China that unite local colleges and dealers with Volvo CE branding and backing through co-operation, customized education and resource sharing. The project is expected to be launched in the south of China next year.

The training programme also includes lectures about Volvo CE’s culture, core values, products and business skills, as well as dealer job training and internship opportunities. Volvo CE also provide comprehensive training for college teachers, who can learn more about the industry, products, applications, business etiquette, communications, marketing and sales, according to their interests. The classes are strictly certified to ensure quality.

‘The competence development project is just the latest example of Volvo CE’s efforts in supporting education and career development for young people in China,’ said Lawrence Luo, president of Volvo CE China. ‘It demonstrates our social responsibility and contribution to the sustainable development of the Chinese construction machinery industry.’
