Safety first for Force One
Excavation specialist modifies Brokk 520D with Xwatch XW4 height and slew system for enhanced safety
EXCAVATION contractors Force One have adapted a remote-controlled Brokk demolition robot with an Xwatch XW4 height and slew system. The Brokk 520D, owned and operated by Force One, has already been equipped with an extension attachment that connects directly to a suction excavator.
This setup allows the demolition robot to manoeuvre in confined spaces while the excavator’s vacuum system extracts material. The conversion has enhanced the flexibility of Force One’s operations, ensuring they can manage the most complex excavation projects.
The remote-control technology utilized in Brokk demolition machines is crucial for maintaining operator safety and significantly reducing the risks associated with the people-plant interface.
The Brokk 520D for Force One is a powerful, diesel-driven, remote-controlled demolition machine. It is often regarded as the most environmentally friendly diesel demolition machine available. When Force One require access to confined spaces that their larger RSP suction excavator trucks cannot reach, the company deploys the Brokk 520D.
Adding the Xwatch XW4 system to the demolition robot improves safety and control by monitoring and restricting height and slew movement.Xwatch engineer Adam Guilfoyle installed the Xwatch XW4 system on the Brokk machine, which presented unique challenges. As the machine sits just six inches off the ground, Mr Guilfoyle had to find creative ways to access the chassis for the slew installation. He also fabricated a bespoke motion control box to integrate seamlessly with the Brokk’s remote-controlled functionality.
The Xwatch XW4 height and slew system's seamless integration into a remote-controlled machine like the Brokk 520D showcases its versatility and state-of-the-art safety solutions.
This is especially vital in confined and high-risk environments, where precision is essential. The XW4 system is an exceptionally versatile safety solution that improves control and accuracy across various construction machinery. Its advanced technology facilitates seamless integration, ensuring optimal application performance while upholding the highest safety standards.
Declan Burke, managing director of Force One, commented: ‘Safety is always at the forefront of our priorities, and Xwatch has demonstrated itself to be the most reliable and user-friendly system in the civil sector. We've effortlessly transitioned all our civil safety systems to Xwatch because of its precision, ease of use, and dependability. Knowing we have a system that integrates seamlessly with our operations gives us complete confidence in upholding safety and efficiency, regardless of the job's complexity.’
Jemma Dycer-Hopkins, sales and operations manager at Xwatch Safety Solutions, added: ‘The integration of Xwatch with remote-controlled machinery like the Brokk 520D exemplifies our systems' adaptability. Force One’s commitment to safety and efficiency aligns perfectly with our mission at Xwatch – providing user-friendly, reliable solutions that enhance site safety without compromising productivity. Witnessing our technology's role in such innovative applications is fantastic.’
