First Develon DX140RDM-7 at work in Benelux
Belgian waste-management firm takes delivery of high-reach demolition excavator for contractual work
AFBRAAKWERKEN De Schepper Kris have invested in a brand-new Develon DX140RDM-7 demolition excavator, the first to be sold in Benelux. Supplied by authorized Develon dealers Syms Techniek, the DX140RDM-7 is one of the smallest fully-fledged demolition machines on the market with a high reach, which was a key factor in De Schepper Kris’s decision to choose the model.
The DX140RDM-7 has been put through its paces in Turnhout, where Belgium-based De Schepper Kris have successfully demolished several old multi-storey buildings, often in confined spaces.
A separate 15-tonne zero tail-swing excavator was used to clear the site so the demolition machine could reach the demolition area on the back of a flatbed truck. The compact excavator is continuing to assist the DX140RDM-7 on other projects, allowing it to demolish safely at height with a long boom, while sorting the demolished materials and loading them into containers.
The DX140RDM-7 is the smallest in a series of four demolition excavators offered by Develon. In addition to the 23-tonne DX140RDM-7 unit, there are the 30-tonne DX245DM-7, the 48-tonne DX380DM-7 and the 70-tonne DX530DM-7 models.
De Schepper Kris’s new Develon demolition excavator features a hydraulically adjustable undercarriage, which extends to a maximum width of 3.7m to provide optimum stability when working on demolition sites. The width of the undercarriage can be retracted hydraulically to 2.5m in the narrow width position for ease of transportation.
Two different demolition booms are available: a fixed boom, as chosen by De Schepper Kris, and a detachable boom. In addition to a short digging boom, a long-reach boom is available for the detachable boom. Both demolition booms have a reach height of 16m at the bucket pin whilst delivering a maximum reach of 10.7m (360-degree swing range).
Key safety features of the DX140RDM-7 include an overload protection system that uses four angle sensors and a pressure sensor to register the actions of the machine. The machine operator can read this data on a separate display in the cab. When the safety limit is reached, the operator receives a warning, and the machine is halted.
Due to De Schepper Kris’s nature of demolition work, their DX140RDM-7 has been customized to meet the company’s specific requirements, including a Eurosteel CW40 hydraulic quick coupler fitted to the boom to accommodate a Zijtveld demolition sorting grab and a Trevibenne concrete demolition shear.
The demolition machine is also equipped with an automatic lubrication system and an extra camera on the dipper stick, so the operator has clear visibility while controlling the machine at height. Additionally, 600mm wide steel tracks have been fitted with rubber pads, so that the DX140RDM-7 can work on asphalt and paving applications.
