Large Komatsu dumptrucks to be built in Russia
KOMATSU are to produce 91-tonne payload capacity HD785 dumptrucks at Komatsu Manufacturing Rus LLC (KMR), which opened in Yaroslavl, Russia, in June this year.
Equipped with an integrated production line from welding to assembly, KMR have already launched the production of Komatsu hydraulic excavators.
The latest move is intended to capitalize on anticipated mid-to-long-term growth in demand for large dumptrucks for use in mines in resource-rich Russia.
Production is expected to commence in the second half of 2011, with 20–30 units being built in the first year for supply to CIS markets.
Initially, key components will be procured from Japan and KMR will weld, paint and assemble the equipment, but local procurement of parts will be increased in phases.
Komatsu say they plan to broaden the range of large dumptrucks models produced in Russia in tandem with market growth.
