Eurovia UK achieve ISO 50001

Independent certification in recognition of company’s successful energy-management system

EUROVIA UK have received independent certification to ISO 50001, in recognition of their energy-management system at their shared service centre in Horsham, West Sussex.

The certification follows an assessment by the British Standards Institute (BSI) to check that the energy-management system in place conforms to the requirements of BSI standards.

The energy-management system allows the company to test and review its processes and procedures, as well as produce an action plan to manage the delivery of future energy targets.

Scott Wardrop, Eurovia UK’s chief executive, said: ‘Our clients expect us to deliver best practice in sustainability and environmental management. This certification helps us demonstrate that we are committed to supporting these aims, both now and in the future.’

Siobhan Riordan, group sustainability and corporate responsibility advisor, added: ‘The development of a structured energy-management system helps us to align our objectives and use the information gathered to make informed choices on plans for the building’s energy use.

‘By tracking our consumption and engaging our staff at head office to be more efficient with air-conditioning and lighting systems, for example, we are already seeing reductions on a monthly basis.

‘In fact, whilst developing the systems we saw a 5% reduction in energy use in the office and we are on target to achieve this again, demonstrating the success of the system and its implementation.’

The energy-management system will be rolled out to other appropriate businesses and divisions during 2014.
