Granite Brook screening for success with EvoQuip
EvoQuip Colt 600 screeners play pivotal role in evolution of Massachusetts-based landscaping business
EVOQUIP, global manufacturers of compact mobile crushing, screening, shredding and conveying equipment, have played a pivotal role in the evolution of Granite Brook Stone & Landscape Materials, helping the Massachusetts-based business expand from a local landscaping service into a thriving supplier of premium soils and other materials across New England.
Founded in 2013 by Mike Leone, Granite Brook were born from more than two decades of landscaping experience and a clear vision: to provide high-quality landscape supplies to both contractors and the public. Located in Weston MA, the company quickly became a go-to destination for mulches, soils, bluestone, granite, pavers, and decorative stones, but it was in 2017 that Granite Brook took a major step forward – by investing in their own soil manufacturing capabilities with the help of EvoQuip.
After connecting with Powerscreen New England, Mr Leone took delivery of one of the first EvoQuip Colt 600 units in North America. The Colt 600 is a compact scalping screen that has been specifically designed for operators for whom versatility, manoeuvrability, and transportability are of key importance. Small enough to fit inside a container for transport, it is also strong enough to withstand the toughest of applications.
‘The unit has now done 5,000h since 2017 and we love it. It’s the most versatile tool in our operation – it handles everything we throw at it and is easy to move,’ said Mr Leone. ‘We can make several different grades of loam and we even screen compost now.’
The Colt 600’s compact footprint and aggressive screenbox design made it the ideal solution for Granite Brook’s needs. With the ability to quickly change screen sizes and process a variety of materials, the machine has proven to be both reliable and cost-effective.
‘Over the last eight years we’ve spent less than US$10,000 in parts for our original unit,’ Mr Leone noted. ‘It’s so simple to use and my team can feed it with a loader or excavator.’
As demand grew, Granite Brook expanded operations to a second yard in New Hampshire, and when it came time to equip the new site, Mr Leone did not hesitate to order another EvoQuip Colt 600. ‘There was no question about it,’ he said. ‘With the self-cleaning ‘D’ and ‘Z’ screens and the performance we’ve seen, it was the obvious choice.’
Andrew Lawrence, EvoQuip sales director for North America, commented: ‘The impressive growth story of Granite Brook proves how our equipment is ideal for companies looking to diversify and scale. User-friendliness, fuel efficiency, and ease of transport are at the heart of the EvoQuip brand, perfect for entry-level contractors and growing businesses alike.’
Powerscreen New England say they have also seen strong demand for the Colt 600, with several units now available for rent as efficient alternatives to traditional box screens and trommels.
