Buckingham Plant Hire purchase Volvo FH Tridem
Fleet operator takes delivery of new FH16-750 8x4 heavy haulage tractor unit
BUCKINGHAM Plant Hire have invested in a new Volvo FH16-750 Tridem 8x4 truck for STGO Cat 3 work. The tractor unit, supplied by Milton Keynes-based Volvo Truck and Bus Centre London, was chosen primarily for its high level of performance and the excellent dealer after-sales support and service.
Equipped with a Globetrotter XL cab and a Nooteboom Euro 83 four-axle extendable low-loader with steering axles, the FH16-750 8x4 Tridem is already in service transporting the plant rental firm’s construction machinery to customers throughout the UK. Steve Bowman, a driver for Buckingham Plant Hire, has nothing but praise for the Volvo tractor unit.
‘The driving environment is the best I’ve ever experienced and the power is phenomenal,’ he commented. ‘I’ve stepped up to this truck from our previous 610hp FH16 6x2 and the difference between the two is far greater than I could ever have anticipated. The new truck is so powerful that it feels equivalent to having two 610hp engines in my old FH.’
As the prime mover for Buckingham Plant Hire’s construction equipment, the Volvo FH16-750 Tridem is plated for 125-tonne gcw operation. As well as the power and heavy haulage capacity, the unit features Volvo’s Engine Brake + which provides 375kW of retardation.
Mr Bowman commented: ‘It inspires absolute confidence that, even fully loaded, the truck is able to stop at the bottom of a hill with cool brakes.’
The tractor unit’s 700-litre fuel tanks, infill, lockers, aluminium wings and catwalk were fabricated and installed by SB Components of Wisbech, who also fitted the Trux grille guard. The FH16-750 8x4 also features Durabrite polished aluminium wheels.
