Angle Park Sand & Gravel continue Volvo tradition
New L120G wheel loader maintains aggregates supplier’s long-standing association with Volvo brand
FAMILY-run Angle Park Sand and Gravel Co. Ltd have continued their long association with Volvo construction equipment by purchasing a new L120G loading shovel for their extraction operations at Melville Gates Pit, in Fife.
‘We’ve always appreciated the product quality with the Volvo shovels but more importantly the service support we receive from the Volvo team at Stirling,’ said managing director Ian Cuthbert.
The latest machine replaces an L120E, which has reached 14,500h with all its original components intact and still runs on its original set of tyres.
The new G-Series L120 wheel loader has been placed in the hands of operator Ron Taylor who has been employed at Angle Park since 1988. It joins a fleet of nine wheel loaders (eight of which are Volvos) and a Volvo EC240C excavator.
The machine has been equipped with boom suspension for its primary duty of load and carry, feeding a primary hopper at the Melville Pit site and loading stock on to road wagons.
The L120G boasts an 8-litre Stage IIIB-compliant 272hp engine, Optishift transmission and axles designed and manufactured by Volvo. The wheel loader provides a full-turn tipping load of 11.4 tonnes, representing a 20% increase in lifting force and a 10% increase in breakout force over its predecessor.
These benefits, coupled to an engine output with high torque at low engine rev/min, result in faster cycle times and increased productivity.
In addition, two stronger, variable-displacement, load-bearing axial piston pumps and hoses have been introduced to handle the increased pressures. They provide superior control of the load and attachments, as well as high breakout force, faster lifting and tilt functions.
A newly designed hydraulic cooling system has also been introduced to reduce working temperatures by up to 20 degrees Celsius over the F-Series model.
