Terex Finlay introduce newly launched and prototype crushing and screening machines at recent UK open day

On Thursday 24 September, aggregates and recycling solutions specialists Catplant hosted Terex Finlay’s latest UK customer open day at their site near Doncaster, South Yorkshire. The event attracted more than 200 visitors with end-user customers and dealers in attendance from the UK, Austria, Belgium, Ireland, Lithuania, Germany, Poland and Russia.

The on-site demonstrations featured 13 Terex Finlay machines, five of which have been introduced to market during 2015. A further two crusher prototypes that are due to be released during the fourth quarter of 2015 were also on display.

The five newly launched machines comprised: the J-960 jaw crusher; J-1170AS jaw crusher; C-1545 cone crusher; 873 heavy-duty screener; and 693+ Spaleck inclined screener. The two prototypes were the I-140 impact crusher and the C-1540S cone crusher.

The J-960 is a compact mobile machine incorporating a Terex direct-drive single-toggle jaw crusher that offers high capacity and large reduction ratios. The plant features a heavy-duty hopper with integrated vibrating grizzly and pan feeder as standard. Terex Finlay say its compact size, excellent mobility and high crushing capacity, even at tight settings in recycling and hard rock operations, make the J-960 ideal for small-to-medium-sized operators.

The J-1170AS jaw crusher provides the flexibility of a crushing and screening plant on one machine. Equipped with a detachable on-board sizing screen, at the heart of the machine is a robust, hydrostatically driven Terex jaw chamber that delivers high capacity with large reduction ratios. The jaw chamber configuration can be set up specifically for quarrying applications or the processing of construction/demolition debris using the hydraulic release chamber option. The J-1170AS features a heavy-duty, variable-speed vibrating grizzly feeder and integrated pre-screen for high production throughput in quarrying, mining, demolition and recycling applications.

The C-1545 is a high-capacity cone crusher designed to consistently provide high output capacity and product with excellent cubicity. The machine incorporates the new Terex 1150 cone crusher variable-speed direct clutch drive, automatic tramp relief and hydraulic closed-side setting adjustment. The large hopper/feeder has a metal detection/purge chute system to protect the cone and reduce downtime by removing metal contaminants.

The 873 heavy-duty screener has been engineered to work as a primary screen in quarry, demolition, C&D waste recycling, landfill material, topsoil, sand and gravel, coal, slag, ore processing and aggregates, and is said to offer small-to-medium-sized operators a flexible, class-leading machine. Offering a wide range of screening media configurations, the machine has the ability of process material at rates up to 450 tonnes/h.

The 693+ Spaleck inclined screener is said to be the ultimate in mobile fine screening and separation technology. At the heart of the plant is an innovative two-deck German-designed and constructed high-performance screenbox with state-of-the-art flip-flow technology on both the top and bottom decks, to ensure effective screening of difficult materials. Terex Finlay say the machine’s processing capabilities and application flexibility make it the ideal tracked solution for the processing and separation of recyclable materials such as incinerator slag, compost, clay, quarry dust, agg-lime, biomass, topsoil, aggregates, ore etc.

Key features of the prototype I-140 impact crusher include: ease of material flow through the machine; hydraulically assisted apron setting; and a heavy-duty vibrating feeder (VGF) with integral pre-screen for fines removal.

Key features of prototype C-1540S cone crusher include: a fuel-efficient direct-drive transmission via clutch; hydraulic tramp relief with automatic reset to protect the chamber and minimize downtime; a metal-detection system on the feed belt with ‘auto-stop’ to protect the cone; and a purge system to remove contaminants.

Commenting on the open day event, Rik Kiddle, Terex Finlay’s global sales and business development director, said: ‘This was our fifth open day in as many months and to greet so many customers and have the opportunity to demonstrate the exciting new machines we have developed in aggregate and recycling applications was very rewarding.

‘Our new product developments this calendar year have been unprecedented. We have launched four new crushers and two new screeners so far this year, with another three crusher models to launch by the end of the fourth quarter.

‘We place a lot of emphasis on listening to what our customers tell us they want and need day in day out, and judging by the feedback that we’ve received on all the new equipment, we are definitely on the right track with our new product development initiatives.’
