Kelly Tanks are a leading OEM specializing in concrete washout equipment and water-treatment solutions for the construction industry. QM’s Simon Chan spoke with directors Mark Stubbs and Kelly Bryant about the company’s ongoing evolution, its commitment to continuous product development, and the vital role of first-class service in meeting the changing needs of the construction sector
When the chance arose to sit down with Mark Stubbs and Kelly Bryant it was an opportunity not to be missed. It is not that the business co-founders shy away from doing interviews – far from it – but when you’re managing one of the UK’s most influential and leading OEMs in concrete washout and water-treatment systems, finding time in a diary full of meetings, site visits, and helping customers achieve sustainable, efficient construction is no small task.
Nevertheless, both Kelly and Mark took time to speak with Quarry Management about the history of Kelly Tanks Ltd and their continued efforts to assist contractors and materials producers across the UK and beyond in managing water more effectively, safeguarding the environment, and progressing towards a more sustainable future for the construction sector.
The beginning
Established in 2013, Kelly Tanks have quickly become an innovative force in the construction industry, responding to the rising demand for sustainable, cost-effective wastewater treatment solutions. Founded on a strong commitment to sustainability and environmental responsibility, the company today operates the UK’s largest and most diverse fleet of concrete washouts and a comprehensive range of water-treatment systems, delivering practical, site-ready solutions.
‘Wastewater comes in many forms, and every site presents its own unique challenges,’ said Mark Stubbs, who has more than 35 years of industry experience in water treatment. Having gained extensive experience working on pipelines across the UK, Russia, and Southeast Asia, Mark began to appreciate what could be achieved through natural resources and teamwork.
When his ‘pipeline days’ came to an end, he returned to the UK and started a groundworks contracting company. Several years later, and after considerable success in groundworks and drainage, Mark was eager to further utilize his knowledge and passion for water treatment. He invited Kelly Bryant to join him in establishing Kelly Tanks – a truly customer-focused company with ambition, agility, and technical strength, committed to delivering the best-value products and services in water treatment.
‘Kelly and I have worked diligently over the years to expand our product range to include larger-capacity units, integrated recycling options, and customized configurations to fit different site layouts and production needs,’ explained Mark.
‘We now offer a comprehensive range of flexible, scalable systems that can be adapted for anything from small construction jobs to major infrastructure and quarrying projects – all prioritizing reliability, environmental compliance, and user-friendliness.’
Continual innovation lies at the heart of Kelly Tanks’ success. The OEM invests heavily in research, design, and customer feedback to refine its products and develop new systems that address on-site challenges directly.
‘At Kelly Tanks, we’re constantly pushing to raise the bar across not only our equipment portfolio, but the entire industry,’ continued Mark. ‘With sustainability standards becoming increasingly stringent, the demand for efficient and compliant water-management systems continues to grow. Our advanced technologies – from pH control and remote monitoring to flow-proportional dosing and renewable energy-powered equipment – are engineered to deliver environmental compliance and operational efficiency on site.’
From the company’s Stafford headquarters, Mark and Kelly head a skilled team of designers, engineers, and service professionals committed to enhancing Kelly Tanks’ proven product range while driving the development of innovative water-treatment solutions to meet the changing needs of customers worldwide.
‘The continued success of our business has always been founded on strong partnerships with our customers,’ emphasized Mark Stubbs. ‘We make it our priority to ensure they not only have the right product for the job, but also receive a tailored service that covers every stage – from site evaluation and equipment design to on-site setup, training, and repairs.’
Today
To address the wide spectrum of wastewater challenges found on sites, Kelly Tanks employ a variety of proven treatment processes tailored to specific applications. These include settlement and flotation, coagulation and flocculation, and lamella separation for efficient solids removal; coalescence and oil adsorption systems for hydrocarbon control; and mixed-media filtration and pH correction for polishing and compliance.
Together, these treatment techniques form a versatile toolkit that enables end-users and contractors to manage water quality effectively, ensuring cleaner discharge, reduced waste, and full environmental compliance. Building on this expertise in water treatment, the company’s well-established CWS Concrete Washout system has become the preferred system for safely cleaning concrete wagons, pumps, and equipment on site.
Easy to set up and maintain, the portable CWS range captures and contains washout slurry, preventing cementitious runoff from entering drains or watercourses – helping sites stay clean, compliant, and environmentally responsible.
‘As a cost-effective alternative to skips and suction wagons, our Concrete Washout range allows equipment to be cleaned safely on site by separating solids, recycling water, and neutralising pH,’ remarked director Kelly Bryant. ‘Since its launch, our Concrete Washout fleet has continued to evolve in line with customer feedback and changing site demands.’
Kelly Tanks recently expanded their Concrete Washout range with two new additions – the Double Washout and Mini Washout. The Double Washout is an advanced closed-loop system featuring twin Adsorption Sacks, 2,000-litre water storage, high-volume pumping, and automatic CO2 pH control. Designed to recycle and reuse wash water indefinitely, it delivers efficient solids separation and promotes full environmental compliance.
The compact Mini Washout offers the same principles in a portable format for smaller on-site tools. Equipped with wheels, integrated water storage, and recycling pumps, it provides a self-contained, user-friendly solution for sites seeking to manage concrete washout responsibly while reducing waste and water use.
‘In recent years, we’ve significantly expanded and refined our water-management equipment range to ensure we can meet the demands of virtually any site or application,’ explained Mark. ‘Every site is different, with varying space, capacity, and operational needs. That’s why we offer a full range of washout systems, from compact units to large-capacity models designed for high-volume use.
‘A great example of working in close partnership with, and meeting the bespoke needs of, our customers, is that we will soon launch our largest Concrete Washout system in the market. This user-friendly solution is particularly valuable for large construction and quarrying sites, enabling efficient management of concrete washout while reducing environmental impact.’
The future
‘To succeed in this industry, being at the forefront of innovation and research is essential,’ highlighted Mark Stubbs. ‘We are fully committed to developing new technologies, solutions, and best practices that push the boundaries of performance and environmental responsibility. Having the ability to design and refine our own products through in-house research and development is invaluable.’
That forward-looking approach will once again take centre stage next year, as Kelly Tanks prepare to showcase their latest products and technologies at several major industry events, including The UK Concrete Show 2026, and Hillhead 2026, the world’s largest working quarrying exhibition.
‘We made our show debut at Hillhead 2022, and it’s a decision Mark and I haven’t looked back on,’ commented Kelly Bryant. ‘Hillhead is a hugely important trade show for us – it’s the perfect platform to showcase our full range of water-treatment and Concrete Washout systems, and keep customers informed about new advances in technology.
‘Like The UK Concrete Show, Hillhead allows us to engage directly with both new and existing clients, share best practice, and highlight how our wastewater treatment solutions can help sites improve efficiency, compliance, and sustainability.’
With a continued emphasis on developing cutting-edge equipment and delivering comprehensive, customer-focused solutions, Mark Stubbs has every reason to be confident about the business’s future – particularly following Kelly Tanks’ strong showing at Hillhead 2024, which helped reinforce the specialist OEM’s position as one of the mineral products sector’s most innovative solution providers.
‘Our stand attracted a record number of visitors and a strong level of enquiries, making the last Hillhead an extremely successful and worthwhile trade show for us,’ explained Mark. ‘With a few months to go until the next edition of Hillhead, we’re very excited to show what we have in store and bring customers up to date with our innovative products and service offerings.’
Looking ahead, Mark and Kelly remain highly optimistic about the future growth trajectory of Kelly Tanks. With increasing demand for efficient, sustainable on-site water management, they see key opportunities across the quarrying, construction, waste-management, and wastewater-treatment sectors.
The ongoing tightening of environmental standards, combined with the industry’s move towards greener, more efficient practices, is opening new opportunities for innovation – and Kelly Tanks are committed to leading that progress.
Mark told QM: ‘Kelly Tanks has established itself as a market-leading brand with a strong reputation for supplying high-performance, reliable equipment to its end-user customers, supported by first-class after-sales service. Our priority now is to build on that strong foundation and move the business into its next stage of growth. Delivering this will rely on our continued commitment to close collaboration with customers, contractors, and industry partners.’
From design and research through to procurement, project management, and operations, Kelly Tanks remain focused on driving innovation and promoting best practice across the construction industry.
