Construction giant strengthens UK market position with purchase of major infrastructure services business

VINCI Construction have finalized their full acquisition of FM Conway, one of the UK’s leading infrastructure services companies.

The newly acquired organization will now join the network of VINCI Construction to support the further growth of FM Conway, with a clear focus on innovation and sustainability. With an annual turnover of £580 million and employing over 2,000 people, the highways materials firm delivers essential maintenance and construction services across transportation, the built environment, and the public realm.

FM Conway are also a pioneer in sustainable construction through their advanced circular economy model, and in particular the use of highly recycled asphalt on the local and strategic road networks. FM Conway will continue to operate as a standalone business but benefit from the wider group support and resources.

On completion of the agreement, Joanne Conway has stepped away from the company, while longstanding board member Andrew Hansen will oversee the next phase of FM Conway’s evolution and growth within VINCI.

Mr Hansen, who joined the business in 1998, has been appointed FM Conway managing director. Mark Goldsworthy remains as chief financial officer of FM Conway, while joining the board will be Xavier Lansade and Scott Wardrop.

Mr Hansen, managing director of FM Conway, said: ‘This is an exciting new chapter in FM Conway’s story, opening up fantastic opportunities for how we deliver for our clients and communities. We’ve always been a company that has pushed boundaries and embraced new opportunities.

‘Over the past 27 years, I’ve had the pleasure of seeing firsthand what this business can accomplish.  Now with the additional firepower of VINCI Construction behind us, I do not doubt that our people will continue to achieve great things.  The future is very bright.’

Scott Wardrop, chief executive of VINCI Construction in the UK, added: ‘I am very pleased to welcome the FM Conway team to VINCI. I have known the family and senior team for a long time and respected the culture, innovation and professionalism, which complements the businesses of VINCI Construction. I know we will learn from each other, and I firmly believe that successful and sustainable infrastructure services businesses must know their whole supply chain – FM Conway strengthens our capability.’
