Thrislington dolomitic lime plant to be mothballed
Lhoist say decision follows closure of steel manufacturing plants in north of England
FOLLOWING the significant reduction in steel making in the UK and the subsequent closure of manufacturing plants in the north of England, Lhoist have announced plans to mothball their dolomitic lime (dolime) production plant at Thrislington.
Soft-burnt dolime is almost exclusively used in the production of steel.
All 40 members of staff at the Thrislington plant will now commence a collective consultation process and management will liaise closely with union and employee representatives.
‘Unfortunately, demand for dolime from our Thrislington plant has drastically reduced, since the closure of steel manufacturing plants in this region,’ commented Cedric de Vicq, managing director of Lhoist UK.
He added: ‘All members of staff will go through a collective consultation process and we are looking at opportunities to retain staff where possible.’
Headquartered in Belgium, Lhoist Group are one of the world’s largest producers of lime, dolime and minerals, with a presence in 25 countries and more than 90 facilities around the globe.
