Terex Finlay machines give Goonvean a boost

Company sees surge in production thanks to three new mobile machines from Finlay Plant SW

ST Austell-based Goonvean Aggregates say one of their sites in Cornwall has nearly doubled its efficiency following the introduction of three new Terex Finlay machines from Finlay Plant SW, part of the Finlay Group of companies.

The site has seen a 40% increase in production since the arrival of a new J-1175 jaw crusher, C-1540 cone crusher and 883+ screener.

These new machines, which replace a 20-year-old static plant, offer the latest in crushing and screening technology to produce a high-quality end product while, at the same time, reducing running costs.

Kevin Foley, general manager of Goonvean Aggregates, said: ‘We are really impressed with the new plant. Technology has moved forward a great deal in the last few years and we’ve seen this with the new machines. They’re proving to be cheaper to run and we’re getting a far higher output as well.’

Working together, the machines are producing approximately 120–140 tonnes/h at St Stephen, one of Goonvean Aggregates’ four sites in the South West.

The high-performance Terex Finlay J-1175 tracked mobile primary jaw crusher is fed with blasted rock and, in turn, feeds the Terex Finlay C-1540 cone crusher. This produces, among other materials, an 803 product for road construction as well as an all-in aggregate for block production.

The Terex Finlay 883+ has a dual purpose for Goonvean Aggregates. First, it is used as a pre-screen prior to the jaw crusher, to remove fines from the material, and secondly, it is used to screen the processed material from the cone crusher, producing 20mm, 10mm and 6mm aggregate products.

Delivered at the beginning of the summer, these are the first machines that Goonvean Aggregates have purchased from Finlay Plant SW.

Gareth Johnson, managing director of Finlay Plant SW, said: ‘The Terex Finlay 883+ has the capacity to process up to 500 tonnes/h, so it’s no wonder Goonvean Aggregates have seen such an increase in productivity.

‘We were delighted to be able to supply Goonvean Aggregates with their first mobile equipment and we hope the relationship is one that will continue for many years.’
