Goonvean Aggregates invest in QMS quarrying expertise
Quarry Manufacturing and Supplies deliver new conveying system, structures and feed bins
CORNISH company Goonvean Aggregates Ltd are major independent suppliers of aggregates, sands, and gravels throughout the south-west of England, and increasingly to markets further afield. As part of the modernization and enhancement of their production process, the company has recently invested in a new conveying system, structures, and feed bins, all designed, manufactured, supplied, installed, and supported by Quarry Manufacturing & Supplies (QMS).
Since their foundation in 1931, Goonvean Aggregates, based in Cornwall, have been a privately owned operation with strong foundations and an extensive heritage in processing aggregates. Proud of their Cornish roots and independent status, the company is also adept at supplying its high-quality materials further afield, having a wealth of experience in processing, washing, and producing an extensive range of granite-based secondary aggregates that serve a comprehensive range of markets including construction, highways, sports, leisure, and agriculture.
A differentiating feature of Goonvean Aggregates is that whatever products a particular business requires, the company aims to have it covered. If not, it specializes in developing and manufacturing bespoke products tailored to customers’ individual specifications. It is able accomplish this as the company’s technical department has a dedicated in-house laboratory to ensure products are compliant, with any additional specialist tests required being carried out by an external UKAS-accredited testing facility.
Goonvean Aggregates’ customer-focused ethos recently led the company to assess its aggregate production process, which led to the decision to upgrade and modernize its conveying system, along with the structural towers and feed bins. To this end, the company commissioned QMS to design, manufacture, and install a new conveying system, along with the required ancillary structures and equipment.
In addition to their award-winning range of crusher and screens, QMS offer a comprehensive range of feeders, hoppers, and conveyors specifically designed to handle large quantities of bulk material, to ensure even and consistent feed into crushing and screening plants. In addition, they have a full array of ancillary equipment, which is customizable to meet the unique requirements of any installation. Each item is fully manufactured and built at the company’s Coalville UK facility.
‘The QMS range of standard and bespoke conveyors is designed and engineered in house using the latest design and manufacturing techniques,’ explained QMS managing director Jonathan Beck. ‘This enabled us to provide Goonvean Aggregates with an optimal design that incorporates simplicity in installation and inspection combined with ease of transportation. The conveyor design not only increases stockpile capacity but also reduces on-site material handling, making the system an essential part of Goonvean Aggregates’ efficient operations.’

‘But the equipment itself, no matter how well designed and manufactured, is only as good as the people who put it in place,’ continued Mr Beck. ‘Our installation and support personnel are highly skilled and fully trained with appropriate certification, and their vast experience working with all brands of crushing equipment makes them experts in the field, so customers can rest assured that their operations and equipment are in good hands.’
The new QMS designed and installed plant became operational in October 2024 and is now fully contributing to Goonvean Aggregates’ drive to supply more of its products, not only throughout the south-west of England, but the rest of the UK too. ‘We were pleased to be asked to design, manufacture, and install the conveyors and other equipment at Goonvean Aggregates’ Melbur Quarry. To see the installation contributing to the further success of the company is what we are about,’ concluded Mr Beck.
