Tarmac secure Rutland highways contract extension

Company awarded the first of five possible one-year extensions to original five-year contract

TARMAC have been awarded an extension on their £3.5 million per year highways maintenance contract with Rutland County Council. The company secured its original contract in 2013 for an initial period of five years, with the option of five single-year extensions.

Following successful delivery of a number of projects and consistently meeting all of their key performance indicators, Tarmac have been awarded the first extension, which will run to December 2019.

This will see the business continue to deliver integrated highways services for Rutland, including the upkeep and resurfacing of the county’s 325 miles of roads and pavements, as well as gritting, road signs, gulley cleaning, street lighting and winter maintenance.

Commenting on the contract award extension, Peter Hyde, director of Tarmac’s Highways Services Business, said: ‘We’re extremely pleased to have secured this extension to our highways contract with Rutland County Council.

‘It is testament to the collaborative hard work and commitment of our colleagues, both at Tarmac and the Council, that we have been able to deliver a first-rate local road network over the past few years, and we are looking forward to continuing our successful partnership.’

Since being awarded the contract, Tarmac have been committed to supporting and investing in local people and businesses. The company has employed apprentices on industry-accredited training programmes, sponsored the Active Rutland Community Sports Awards and participated in local community projects, such as the Ashwell canal towpath renewal.

Moreover, the highways team from the County Council is now co-located with Tarmac colleagues at the company’s Oakham depot, underlining the commitments of both organizations to collaborative working.
