Tarmac cement graduate commitment

Graduate cohort

Company launches 2020 recruitment scheme aimed at creating talented and skilled workforce for the future

AS part of a business of more than 8,000 people at 400 sites across the country, graduates joining Tarmac have the opportunity to gain experience across the whole building materials and construction sector, helping to shape and create the infrastructure of the future.

Participants in the scheme will be involved in a wide range of activities and projects; from working with local communities to deliver biodiversity projects and developing technical innovations in the materials research and development team, to building new highways and communications links and creating safer working environments.

Graduates can apply for one of 20 positions on the nationwide scheme, which combines hands-on experience in a chosen specialism with a formal training programme lasting two years.

Martin Riley, senior vice-president at Tarmac, said: ‘Our people are what make our business, and it’s vital we continue to attract new talent to support our organization and the future of the construction industry.

‘Graduates joining Tarmac will benefit from a real commitment to development and career growth at all stages, as well as being part of a really exciting industry delivering the next generation of infrastructure for the UK.’

Rish Rathod, a graduate in Tarmac’s finance team who joined the scheme in 2018, said: ‘I’ve really enjoyed my time with Tarmac so far. Not only have I been supported in my academic studies to become a qualified accountant, I’ve been provided with opportunities and support to develop softer skills too.’

As part of the scheme, Mr Rathod has spent time with different parts of the business, as well as delivering a range of project work. He added: ‘It’s great to be able to make a difference from the very beginning and I’m looking forward to a long and successful career in construction.’

Tarmac’s annual graduate programme is one of a range of professional development initiatives run by the company aimed at creating a talented and highly skilled workforce for the future. Applications for the 2020 graduate scheme will close on 31 March.
