CEMEX announce proposed mothballing of North Lincolnshire cement works during third quarter of 2020
CEMEX have announced a proposed mothballing of their South Ferriby cement plant during the third quarter of 2020, which may result in all employees based at the plant being made redundant.
Cement drivers currently based at plant in North Lincolnshire are not immediately impacted but the intention is also to review the optimal haulage provision.
The company will shortly commence a process of collective consultation with affected employees and a final decision will be announced once this is completed.
In a statement issued today, CEMEX say the proposal to mothball South Ferriby comes after an analysis of the company’s European cement supply chain and has not been influenced by the current coronavirus pandemic.
The statement adds that the proposal will allow CEMEX to optimize the network they have available across the region, with customer supplies being maintained from the company’s existing cement network.
CEMEX say they remain committed to the UK and will continue to have a strong national presence, but strategic growth in the future will be focused on those markets most attractive to the company, such as the larger metropolitan markets where demand and profitability will be strongest.
