Scottish contractor expands Doosan machinery fleet
D.A. Boyd Groundworks purchase a trio of Doosan excavators including new 14-tonne DX140LC-3 model
THE recent arrival of a new Stage IIIB-compliant Doosan DX140LC-3 crawler excavator at D.A. Boyd Groundworks extends the successful legacy of Doosan equipment at the company that stretches back to the early 2000s.
In addition to the new machine, the contractor has taken delivery of a new 22-tonne Doosan DX225LC crawler excavator while a DX255LC model is on order, all supplied by Scotia Plant Ltd – the authorized Doosan and Bobcat dealers for Scotland’s central belt.
Duncan Boyd, founder of D.A. Boyd, commented: ‘We believe the Doosan excavators offer really good value for money, combining excellent performance with a truly durable design and construction that allows them to work much more easily than other machines on the market in the tough conditions we work in.’
Doosan excavators are known for their reliability and ease of maintenance. The new DX140LC-3 crawler excavator has a more robust undercarriage with reinforced components, including track links, track springs and sprockets. The boom and arm have been strengthened by increasing the metal thickness at critical points and using reinforced bushings.
The machine’s engine bonnet is split into several parts to improve serviceability, while components such as filters, valves and batteries are all within easy reach for service work.
The DX140LC-3 excavator is powered by a Doosan DL06K common-rail six-cylinder turbocharged diesel engine, which meets Stage IIIB engine emission regulations through the use of exhaust gas recirculation and diesel particulate filter after-treatment technologies.
The engine has a displacement of 5,890cc and delivers 15% more power (109hp at 1,850 rev/min) than the engine in the previous Stage IIIA model. Field tests conducted by Doosan show a reduction of up to 17.5% in fuel consumption, depending on the operating mode selected and the work being undertaken.
