Royal Humane Society award for MQP lorry driver
National recognition for Baston-based driver who saved man’s life by the side of the road
A MIDLAND Quarry Products (MQP) lorry driver has gained national recognition for saving a man’s life at the side of the road.
Driver Darren Peace, who is based at MQP’s Baston asphalt plant, was recently awarded the Royal Humane Society Award for Resuscitation after administering CPR to a van driver who suffered a heart attack at the wheel of his vehicle near Bourne, in Lincolnshire.
Mr Peace, who saw the van veer off the road and into a hedgerow, found the driver slumped across the passenger seat and, with help of two other members of the public, managed to get him out of the vehicle. ‘By chance, I had completed a first aid refresher course two weeks previously, so I immediately knew what to do,’ he said.
Mr Peace, who attended to the stricken driver until the emergency services arrived at the scene, received his award from the High Sheriff of Lincolnshire at a ceremony in Lincoln that was also attended by the Chief Constable of Lincolnshire Police.
