Nottinghamshire-based firm takes delivery of new Volvo EC380D excavator for its plant fleet

JOINING an existing 36-tonne EC360C, three EC240C excavators, an EC210C excavator, three A25 dumptrucks and an L120E loading shovel – the new Volvo EC380D is the largest excavator to be purchased by Jager Associates to date and has been put to work at an ongoing demolition project in Northampton.

Based in Ruddington, Nottinghamshire, Jager Associates specialize in general contracting and civil engineering projects, including earthworks, demolition, remediation and contract crushing and screening throughout England and Wales, and have a turnover in excess of £2 million per annum.

As well as its standard hammer/shear hydraulic circuit, the company’s new machine has been fitted with grab rotation to operate a selector grab, together with a heavy-duty screen guard to protect the cab windscreen and operator from debris.

Equipped with a Stage IIIB V-Act 13-litre engine, the EC380D develops 283hp and is well matched to its automatic sensing mode hydraulic system. The machine features an automatic idling system that reduces engine speed when the levers and pedals are not activated – aiding fuel efficiency and lowering external noise.

When only a single function is being used, the two-pump hydraulics system combines the flow of both pumps for quick cycle times and greater productivity. It can also prioritize flow according to the work being done – for example, to the boom for faster raising when loading or in deep excavations; or to the arm during levelling or swing during large slewing angles.

Commenting on the new machine, Jager Associates’ managing director, Alan Morris, said: ‘We opted for the Volvo product once again due mainly to the good reliability of the existing machines and the excellent support we get from Volvo for parts and service support.’

The new machine has been supplied complete with Volvo’s Blue service agreement and will be maintained by a fully trained and accredited Volvo technician using genuine Volvo parts.
