Hi Jack,
Goodness knows just how many years ago it was that I met you in Nottingham just before you were confirmed as being the new MD for the QMJ- could it have been in the late 1970's or early '80's?.
The industry is quite unrecognisable from those heady days when we were all flat out and the IQ was fully supported by the industry. The three day conferences attended by up to 200 was a sign of this and to be invited to be one of those attending the company party was a privilege
and a recognition of having 'arrived'! How times have changed and how sad it was to see that the IQ had to advertise for someone to fill (I think) the deputy chairman's post which in the past would have been seen by so many as a stepping stone to becoming in due course the president.
We were all fortunate to have gone through the industry when loyalty worked both ways and lifetime careers in one company were commonplace. I consider myself to have been a quarrying industrial dinosaur and I can think of more than a few that would be proud to be considered that as well!
Good and memorable times which must be the case since my near 40 year career with the company feels like have only been five! No I am not gong to go back!
Have a happy retirement and good luck to you and the family,

Kind regards,
