New asphalt screen supplied to Tarmac
Replacement screen from North Dean Engineering chosen for its reliability and efficiency
NORTH Dean Engineering Ltd have supplied and installed a new 5m x 1.8m (three full- and two half-deck) vibrating hot screen at Tarmac’s Renishaw Works in Sheffield. The site – which produces 130,000 tonnes of asphalt a year was in need of new screen to replace an existing 17-year-old unit.
The replacement screen has been fitted with a precision-engineered shaft assembly for greater reliability and efficiency. This is particularly beneficial as the reprocessing of recycled materials leaving the dryer can result in temperatures of up to 220ºC.
Minimum disruption to site operations was essential and this was achieved by ensuring the new screen fitted to the existing footprint of the old screen. This resulted in no modifications being required to the existing feed and collection bunkers or front discharge chute.
Also supplied by North Dean Engineering was a full dust-suppression enclosure that connects to the existing extraction system, which feeds the bagging plant. In addition, access doors have been provided to allow for ease of screen maintenance.
Site manager Lee Mitchell commented: ‘We chose North Dean Engineering as they had helped us keep our existing screen running when we had recurring shaft assembly issues. They offered a competitively priced bespoke solution, together with their extensive asphalt screen knowledge and experience.’
