Mountsorrel Quarry celebrates International Women’s Day
Local MP Jane Hunt gives inspirational talk to the Leicestershire quarry’s 11 female employees
EMPLOYEES at Tarmac’s Mountsorrel Quarry marked International Women’s Day [8 March] with a talk from special guest speaker local MP Jane Hunt. The slogan for this year’s event was #EachforEqual, which is represented with horizontally placed arms symbolizing the equal sign.
Ms Hunt talked to the team about how challenging her journey to becoming an MP had been and how difficult it was, and still is, to become a female MP in a strongly male-dominated Parliament. Having finally succeeded at her fifth attempt, she emphasized the importance of persistence and never giving up.
Mountsorrel Quarry currently employs 11 women in jobs ranging from weighbridge operative, facilities and compliance manager, strategic planning manager, performance manager and sand plant manager.
Gemma Bettoney-Bramhall, asphalt and load-out manager at the site, said: ‘I’m really proud of all the women we have working here at Mountsorrel. The number of women working on site has nearly doubled over the last 12 months and we are very keen to continue to further increase this number.
‘We have an extremely wide variety of roles available – from front-line operatives and management positions, to being out and about in the quarry or in the offices. We are looking towards developing flexible working initiatives to encourage even more women to join our business.’
