Komatsu introduce HM400-3 ADT
Japanese construction equipment manufacturer unveils latest articulated dumptruck
WITH its completely redesigned traction control system, automatic retarder and new engine emission technology, combined with an optimized cabin layout and increased durability, Komatsu say their new HM400-3 articulated dumptruck is a highly productive and low-cost production unit.
The new machine, which has a gross vehicle weight of 77,740kg with a 40-tonne payload at its maximum speed of 55.9km/h, is powered by a 473hp (353kW), EU Stage IIIB/EPA Tier 4 Interim emission-certified Komatsu SAA6D140 engine featuring a hydraulically actuated Komatsu Variable Geometry Turbocharger (KVGT) and an exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) valve, resulting in greater precision, improved air management and longer component life.
As well as incorporating a Komatsu diesel particulate filter (KDPF), the HM400-3 is equipped with the new Komatsu Traction Control System (K-TCS), which automatically provides optimum traction on any type of ground. As ground conditions worsen and tyre slippage is detected by speed sensors located on four wheels, automatic application of the inter-axle differential lock occurs. If tyre slippage continues, four independent brakes are applied to the slipping wheels to regain traction and reduce tyre wear.
The HM400-3 is further enhanced with K-ATOMiCS, an advanced transmission and optimum modulation control system that offers six-speed forward and two-speed reverse. The fully automatic transmission uses an advanced electronic system to eliminate shift shock and torque cut-off to improve operational and power train efficiency.
Thanks to body design optimization, the HM400-3 has increased capacity and payload benefits, making it a suitable match for 30- to 60-tonne hydraulic excavators or 3.8 to 5.7 cubic metre wheel loaders. It also features two single-staged body lift cylinders that provide a 70 degree dump angle for easy unloading.
The new ROPS/FOPS Level 2-certified cab provides a comfortable and quiet work environment, helping operators to maximize their productivity. The cab features a new rounded front dash panel with easy-to-reach switches, while a new, comfortable, high-back, heated air-ride seat with a three-point seat belt improves operator comfort and all-round visibility.
The HM400-3 is also equipped with Komatsu’s Komtrax wireless monitoring system, which transfers daily machine information to a secure website.
