Keeping an Eagle Eye on fuel quality
New fuel quality monitoring system from Liquid Management Solutions helps reduce machinery breakdowns
LIQUID Management Solutions Ltd (LMS), the Midlands-based fuel-management experts, have added a new product to their existing range of online fuel-management tools, Eagle Eye FQM (Fuel Quality Monitoring).
Eagle Eye FQM was designed after listening to customer concerns about the quality of modern day fuel oil being dispensed into highly efficient new plant equipment, in particular gas oil.
While global OEM’s are consistently moving engine performance and emission levels to new levels, actual fuel qualities are taking an opposite path, say LMS. Since the legislative introduction of 7% bio-fuels into gas oil and the mass of imported product now in the supply chain, plant operators have been facing some extremely costly machine breakdown bills.
Eagle Eye FQM hardware is safely installed within the fixed fuel-delivery line from main storage facilities and uses four lasers, calibrated to recognized International Standards Organisation (ISO) procedures, to monitor any dangerous particulates.
Real-time particulate data is then fed back through the Eagle Eye secure web browser at an agreed measurement period. A traffic light-based sequence provides the customer with proactive alarms (audible and SMS/email alerts) flagging up issues before any dangerous particulates travel too far into machinery fuel tanks.
Commenting on the new Eagle Eye FQM system, Kevin Taylor, managing director of Liquid Management Solutions Ltd, said: ‘Many operators are oblivious to what is actually taking place within their fuel-storage facilities and how this is having a costly impact on machinery and operational downtime, but this proactive approach to fuel quality and cleanliness is actually relatively inexpensive and easy to implement.’
