Kaz Plant choose Volvo excavators

Volvo EC140D crawler excavator

Hampshire-based Kaz Plant Ltd, part of the Baram Group, have renewed old acquaintances with Volvo Construction Equipment in purchasing four new Volvo EC140D crawler excavators.

Arren Knight, manager at Kaz Plant, the four Volvo EC140D’s were selected following a competitive tender process along with sound third-party references: ‘Our last experience with the Volvo 14-tonne machine was back in 2005 when we took the B-version machines, and whilst they were reliable and performed well, we just needed to sound out other users of the latest D-version before committing.

‘Apart from a good previous experience the two other factors that persuaded us was the competitive package on the table and the ease of access onto the machine’s superstructure immediately behind the operator’s cab.’

This access feature to the machine’s superstructure has, for Kaz Plant, precluded the need to fit bespoke safety rails around the top of the machine.

The EC140D is powered by a Volvo four-cylinder D4H Stage-IIIB engine developing 114hp which contributes to performance being well matched to the machine’s hydraulics. The machine’s ‘Integrated work mode control’ provides high efficiency, rapid dig cycles and low fuel consumption.  This advanced mode control system ensures the maximum possible hydraulic horsepower available is delivered at a constant engine speed under varying load conditions. In addition, boom and arm geometry provide competitive digging forces and lifting capacities, which makes for faster work cycles. Hose rupture valves are fitted as standard to the boom and dipper cylinders as are quick-fit hydraulics and a hammer/shear service.

The Volvo Care cab offers a large roomy interior with plenty of leg room and foot space. All-round visibility is enhanced by pressurized and filtered cab air supplied by a 14-vent, climate-control system. An adjustable easy-to-read LCD colour monitor provides real-time information of the machine functions, important diagnostic information and a wide variety of work tool settings. The monitor also doubles as a monitor for the rear-view camera.

All four EC140Ds have been deployed working on a growing portfolio of prestigious multi-million pound housing construction projects for major house building contractors. The machines join a mixed fleet of equipment which are specifically used on all of Baram Group’s projects across the south and south-east of England.
