World Cement Association welcomes Institute of Concrete Technology as an affiliate member

THE World Cement Association (WCA) has further expanded its international network of members by welcoming the Institute of Concrete Technology (ICT) as an affiliate member.

The ICT was established in 1972 and is the concrete sector’s professional development body, operating internationally to provide qualifications in concrete technology to people with a professional interest in the industry.

‘The cement and concrete industries have always been close partners and have a long history of collaborating across the world to develop innovative solutions to shared challenges, so we are very happy to welcome the ICT,’ said Ian Riley, chief executive officer of the WCA.

‘Right now, the biggest challenge we face is reducing our impact on climate change, and the concrete industry has a huge role to play in supporting the development and adoption of new technologies that will be vital in ensuring progress towards a net-zero cement sector.’

The ICT’s mission is to preserve and promote concrete technology as a recognized engineering discipline and consolidate the professional status of practicing concrete technologists globally, fulfilling a range of functions to enhance the prospects of its members.

‘The carbon footprint of concrete is one of the main priorities for our industry right now and was the theme of our convention this year. We have been impressed with the way the WCA is helping its members move towards a net-zero future,’ said ICT executive officer Edwin Trout.

‘We look forward to collaborating with the WCA and its members, to explore and promote emerging concrete technologies and improve people’s knowledge across the globe for mutual benefit.’
