Hyundai launch flagship 50-tonne excavator
Korean plant manufacturers Hyundai have added to their Robex excavator range with the launch of a new top-of-the-range model, the 50-tonne Robex R500LC-7A. The new machine was unveiled to the international public for the first time at Intermat 2006.
There are now 17 different size classes in the Korean-built Dash-7 Robex series, ranging from the 1.5-tonne compact up to the new 50-tonne machine. The R500LC-7A is a totally new addition and not just an upgraded version of the R450LC-7, which remains in the Robex range. Hyundai say the 50-tonne machine has been designed to meet the requirements of heavy-duty applications, such as quarrying and mass-excavation.
The machine is powered by an 11-litre, six-cylinder, turbocharged and charge-cooled Cummins QSM11-C, which is rated at 250kW (335hp) net, and meets the Tier 3A emissions standard.
Hydraulic power is provided by a twin-pump, variable-displacement system, feeding a single-body valve block that supplies all main services. The machine is controlled by a pressure-sensitive power-control system which, through three selectable power modes and circuit combinations, automatically provides the right balance between power and economy for different operating conditions. A separate low-pressure pump powers the pilot control system, and a power-boost button on the left-hand joystick lever activates a short burst of power in extremely heavy digging or lifting situations.
At the front-end, a range of boom/stick arrangements, with centralized greasing and adjustable sealed pins and bushes on the bucket linkage, along with the buckets and attachments, offers a variety of combinations for all applications, including heavy-duty buckets up to 3.2m3 capacity for high-production mass-excavation duties.
The track running gear features close-spaced, sealed-for-life track rollers in the long undercarriage frame. The track frames are adjustable to give a narrow (under 3m overall width) setting for transportation, or 3.54m width in the extended position, to provide optimum all-round stability for digging and loading.
Serviceability is facilitated by wrap-around, full-height opening doors, giving easy access to all service components, and there is provision for laptop-PC diagnosis of all functions and elements (in addition to an in-cab diagnostic display for the operator). All electrical check points are centralized in a dedicated, easily accessible box behind the cab.
