Hanson’s ERA 140 gains BBA HAPAS approval
Company now able to offer Clause 942-accredited thin-surface course products in a warm-mix option
HANSON have received an extension to the scope of their British Board of Agrément (BBA) Highway Authority Product Approval Scheme (HAPAS) thin-surface course certification to include their ERA 140 warm-mix asphalt.
The news means the company can now offer customers Clause 942-accredited thin-surface course products in a warm-mix option, which offer environmental, performance and safety benefits.
Adrian Hadley, head of technical (asphalt and aggregate) at Hanson, explained: ‘ERA 140 incorporates a specialist bitumen or additives, allowing the asphalt to be produced at reduced temperatures. This leads to a fall in CO2 emissions and can result in enhanced durability and faster completion of resurfacing work.
‘The extension to our scope is the result of an intensive period of in-house testing, which has subsequently been monitored and approved by the BBA. It demonstrates that producing our thin-surface brands, such as Tuffgrip and Durafalt, using ERA140 technology has no impact on their performance or workability.’
Hanson were approached by Highways England to carry out an extensive warm-mix asphalt trial on a 5km section of the M4 in the South West, which was witnessed by the BBA as part of the approval process.
