Heidelberg Materials re-secure highways contract in Bedford
New agreement for up to five years starts this month and has a total value of around £30 million
HEIDELBERG Materials UK have re-secured their highways contract with Bedford Borough Council for maintaining and improving the borough’s road network.
The agreement, which starts this month [April 2025], follows a competitive tender process and has a potential duration of five years and a total value of around £30 million.
Heidelberg Materials have worked as the main highways contractor for the council since 2013, laying more than 250,000 tonnes of asphalt and delivering a range of schemes across Bedford.
Working with their trusted local supply chain, the company will ensure the safe, sustainable, and efficient delivery of all highways-related work, including carriageway and footway resurfacing, drainage clearance, kerb and ironwork replacement, and minor bridge repairs.

Dave Bennett, major contracts and delivery team leader at Bedford Borough Council, said: ‘We are delighted to renew our agreement with Heidelberg Materials and look forward to continuing a safe and successful collaborative contract.’
Scott Cooper, managing director of contracting at Heidelberg Materials, added: ‘This is great news and demonstrates the success of the relationship we have built with Bedford Borough Council over the last few years.
‘It signals the next step in our collaborative working arrangement to deliver high-quality schemes that meet the council’s efficiency and sustainability targets and improve local roads for residents.’
