Report highlights include reduction in lost time injuries and increased use of rail transportation
HANSON UK have published their 2015 performance and sustainability report, which sets out progress against a range of targets covering people, carbon, water, waste and raw materials.
Key achievements include:
- Reduction in lost time injuries
- Fall in mains water use per tonne of product
- Increase in rail transport
- Increase in local liaison activity
- Over 90% of quarries now have biodiversity action plans.
According to Hanson UK, there was a small rise in energy use per tonne as production facilities were reopened to meet increasing demand, but they were not used to full capacity.
Patrick O’Shea, chief executive officer, said: ‘We are investing in new and improved production plant to help achieve our challenging carbon reduction targets and, most importantly, we have kept health and safety at the very top of our sustainability agenda.
‘It’s clear from this report that we still have a lot of hard work to do if we are to achieve all our 2020 targets, but I am confident that with a continuing favourable trading environment we can, and will, succeed.’
