First Volvo A25Fs for P Flannery Plant Hire
Reliability of existing D-Series haulers convinces firm to invest in latest F-Series machines
FAMILY-run plant hire specialists P Flannery Plant Hire (Oval) Ltd, based in Wembley, North London, have bought two new Volvo A25F articulated dumptrucks for their extensive plant fleet, thanks in part to the reliability of the D-series trucks purchased by the firm four years ago.
‘We hire our equipment to major civil engineering consortiums and large contractors nationwide, so it’s imperative the products we purchase are productive and reliable,’ commented joint director Martin Flannery.
‘The six Volvo A25s we originally purchased with low hours on them have proved their worth time and time again in terms of reliability, performance and, most importantly, client acceptance, so as we needed to add to the fleet it made perfect sense to opt for the latest trucks from Volvo.
The Volvo A25F meets the requirements of Stage IIIB emissions legislation, being powered by an electronically controlled, six-cylinder, 235hp turbo-charged Volvo V-ACT diesel engine. This delivers high torque at low engine speeds, resulting in good fuel efficiency, high performance, quicker engine response and long service life.
Purpose built by Volvo, the engine is designed to exactly match the Volvo drivetrain, ensuring the best use of power and torque, even in tough working conditions. It is matched to a torque converter with built-in lock-up function and fitted with a fully automatic fast-adaptive transmission.
The rest of the Volvo designed and built powertrain has been reinforced to cope with the higher torque output of the engine. Volvo say the A25F is not only more environmentally friendly, it is also up to 4% more fuel efficient than the previous D and E-Series machines. With a carrying capacity of 24 tonnes and heaped capacity of 15 cubic metres, the Volvo A25F has a maximum speed of 53km/h.
The two trucks supplied to P Flannery Plant Hire have optional cantilever tailgates fitted for maximum load retention. The trucks are also fitted with Volvo’s CareTrack telematics system as standard, allowing remote monitoring of a wide range of machine functions (location, fuel consumption, service reminders etc).
