Open-S Alliance initiative welcomes new members
Epiroc, Genesis Attachments, and Kanamoto join organization, further strengthening industry support for global standard of automatic couplers
TWO industry-leading demolition attachment OEMs – Epiroc and Genesis Attachments – and Japan-based equipment rental firm Kanamoto have all joined the Open-S Alliance initiative.
Launched in 2020 by Rototilt and Steelwrist, Open-S is a global standard for fully automatic quick couplers, enabling excavators to switch effortlessly between attachments from any brand that adheres to the specification. The alliance continues to gather momentum, now boasting 23 members worldwide, with nine signing up this year alone, underscoring the industry’s growing demand for safer, smarter, and fully compatible coupling systems.
‘By joining the Open-S Alliance, we reinforce our commitment to delivering open, compatible solutions that empower customer freedom of choice,’ commented Predrag Petrovic, vice-president, business line hydraulic attachment tools at Epiroc. ‘This shared standard is not just about technology – it´s about building a more efficient, connected, and sustainable industry.’
Echoing similar sentiments, Roger Johnson, Genesis’ director of engineering, said: ‘The standards set forth by Open-S are a foundation to maintain the best interests of the owners and operators, which perfectly coincide with Genesis’ focus. The information shared through Open-S will ensure that we can continue to offer advanced attachment solutions that seamlessly integrate with supplementary equipment in the field.’
Meanwhile, Kanamoto have welcomed the broader use of various attachments compatible with the Open-S standard, as a company spokesman remarked: ‘Kanamoto places great importance on improving the compatibility of hydraulic excavator attachments used at construction sites. By joining the Open-S Alliance, we aim to create an environment where attachments can be used across models and manufacturers, thereby enhancing user convenience.’
The growing adoption of the Open-S interface reflects its clear advantages for construction and demolition operations, offering safer, more efficient, and fully compatible coupling across different equipment brands.
