Crushing success for Parsons Reiss
FURTHER extending their heavy engineering capabilities into other areas beyond paper manufacturing machinery, Parsons Reiss have recently manufactured and supplied two pairs of crushing rollers for Cheshire-based Salt Union Ltd.
Manchester-based Parsons Reiss redesigned the mining company’s existing rolls, which had been prone to stress-related weld failures, and increased the surface area of the hardfacing on the rolls, each of which weighs approximately two tonnes.
To apply the hardfacing, the rolls have had to undergo a specialized process in a temperature-controlled environment, which Parsons Reiss were able to provide using specialized ovens that run 24h a day.
Originally developed for the manufacture of machinery for the paper industry, Parsons Reiss say this is a difficult process and one that few engineering companies are able offer in house.
‘We have demonstrated success in transferring our skills and manufacturing abilities to other industries in the past, including a shower system we made for Salt Union for the control of salt dust during transportation,’ explained Chris Wright, managing director of Parsons Reiss.
‘It therefore made sense for us to explore how we could support them further, particularly with our design and in-house manufacturing abilities, both of which they have been able to capitalize on with the commission of the rolls.
‘Not only have we offered better quality and competitive prices, but also further value for money with our hardfacing capabilities and design adaptations that have resulted in more user-friendly equipment.’
According the Parsons Reiss, the results have already proved so successful that repeat orders have been placed.
