CEMEX USA receive environmental award
TWO CEMEX plants in the US have been recognized by the Portland Cement Association (PCA) and Cement Americas for their environmental excellence at the 9th Annual Cement Industry Environmental and Energy Awards. The awards honour individual cement facilities that exemplify continuous environmental improvement.
One CEMEX plant in Xenia, Ohio, also known as Fairbon plant, received an award in the Land Stewardship Category. The award recognizes the plant’s efforts to protect and enhance the surrounding land, as well as its approach to working with the local community, Cedarville University and the US Fish and Wildlife Service.
Elsewhere, a CEMEX plant in Lyons, Colorado, was runner-up in the PCA’s Overall Environmental Excellence Award Category – an honour given to a plant demonstrating merit in several categories, including Outreach, Environmental Performance, Land Stewardship, Innovation and Energy Efficiency.
‘Minimizing the environmental impact of their plants and making their local communities better places are top priorities for cement manufacturers,’ said Brian McCarthy, PCA president and CEO. ‘CEMEX went even further by giving back to a community which has supported it for decades.’
Gilberto Perez, president of CEMEX USA, added: ‘We are constantly working to improve our environmental performance and make our plants more sustainable operations. The Land Stewardship recognition reflects how CEMEX makes looking after not just our facilities, but also our surroundings, including the air, land and water, part of how we do business.’
