CEMEX receive special award for protecting wildlife

Desert bighorn sheep

Company’s initiatives recognized with Special Conservation Award by The Wild Sheep Foundation

THE Wild Sheep Foundation has granted CEMEX its Special Conservation Award in recognition of the initiatives undertaken by the company to protect the desert bighorn sheep in North America.

In particular, CEMEX were commended for their outstanding contributions to desert bighorn sheep repatriation, conservation, and enhanced population in the Mexican state of Coahuila.

As a part of the company’s El Carmen Conservation Programme, the Desert Bighorn Sheep Restoration Programme aims to help restore desert bighorn sheep populations within their former natural range in North America.

To this end, CEMEX are working with government agencies, private landowners, conservation NGOs, universities, and others to address this challenge.

‘We are honoured to receive this recognition, which reinforces our commitment to conserve and protect the extraordinary biodiversity of our planet,’ said Vicente Saiso, director of sustainability for CEMEX.

‘We will continue to work to ensure a bright future for the return of the desert bighorn sheep to the wild.’

The Wild Sheep Foundation, formerly the Foundation for North American Wild Sheep, is the premier advocate for the habitat and conservation of wild sheep and other mountain wildlife.

Since its formation in 1977, the Foundation, along with its chapters and affiliates working with federal, state, provincial, and industry partners such as CEMEX, has tripled bighorn sheep populations in North America.

CEMEX’s El Carmen Conservation Programme is currently celebrating 15 years of work conserving the unique biodiversity of the border region within the states of Coahuila, in Mexico, and Texas, in the US, for present and future generations to enjoy.
