CEMEX contribute to Haiti relief effort
CEMEX are responding to the humanitarian emergency in Haiti by collaborating in the relief efforts with the governments of Mexico and other countries, international institutions and social organizations.
The company has 115 employees in Haiti, working at three maritime terminals and a commercial representation office.
All staff are reported to be safe following the recent earthquake, but a rapid response effort to provide humanitarian aid to the employees, their families, and neighbouring communities has been launched.
To this end, the first delivery of basic goods has been completed, and a second delivery was under way at the time of writing.
CEMEX have also established a fund to receive voluntary contributions from their personnel worldwide. The company has pledged to match every donation received from employees on a two-for-one basis and will contribute the total amount to the relief programme.
In addition, CEMEX are making their heavy machinery in Haiti available to assist the relief teams in their efforts.
With three cement import terminals, two of which are located in the devastated Port-au-Prince area, and one of them in the northern town of Cape Haitian, CEMEX are one of the major cement suppliers in Haiti.
With one of their terminals still operational, and with the help of CEMEX in the Dominican Republic and other operations in the Americas Region, CEMEX say they will be able to maintain supplies of cement into Haiti and, as such, help contribute to the country’s future reconstruction requirements.
