Caterpillar introduce new 793 mining truck
Next-generation machine offers increased payload, faster cycle times, and improved fuel efficiency
BUILDING on a foundation and legacy that has seen almost 6,000 trucks sold worldwide, the new-generation Caterpillar 793 surface mine dumptruck offers up to 6% more payload than the 793F and boasts the highest payload in its size class – up to 244 tonnes (265 tons). The truck’s optional High Performance (HP) Body further reduces empty machine weight to improve payload capacity.
Designed to deliver increased productivity and machine efficiency, the Cat 793 is said to deliver up to 10% more fuel efficiency than competitor models and up to a 5% lower fuel consumption, compared with the 793F. A choice of full or economy mode settings fine-tunes power needs to the task at hand. Full integration of all Cat components, software, systems, and engine also ensures the entire truck can be fully optimized to deliver the lowest-cost-per-tonne.
With a top speed of 60km/h (37 miles/h), the new Cat 793 truck offers up to 10% faster cycle times than competitor trucks. It travels at a class-leading speed of 12.9 km/h (8 miles/h) on 10% grades and can navigate a maximum 25% grade fully loaded.
Offering maximum uptime availability, the surface mining truck is powered by the Cat C175-16 engine, which has been extensively tested and proven to run over 21 million operating field hours, whilst achieving more than 3.8 million litres of fuel burn before an overhaul is required. Available in Tier 2/Tier 4 Final/Stage 5 configurations, the engine produces 2,650hp (1,976kW) for maximum performance and efficiency.
The mining truck also features a new Cat enhanced il filtration system increases engine life, eliminates cartridge filter changes, and extends oil change intervals. Simplifying truck operation, advanced speed controls on the Cat 793 allows the operator to set the desired machine speed and control it with a rotary dial whilst the powertrain automatically selects the optimum gear and engine speed.
The truck’s advanced power electronic control strategy transmission maintains forward momentum and torque, as well shifting with optimum gear selection for faster acceleration and greater productivity. An optional anti-lock brake system is available to help maintain the travel path when sliding, whilst dynamic stability control monitors operator steering intention and vehicle motion to keep the machine tracking.
The Cat 793 is available in various body style configurations, including the HP Body which offers up to 2.5 tonnes (2.75 tons) payload improvement over the Mine Specific Design (MSD) body, whilst the MSD II Body excels in challenging hauling and mining applications.
For improved telematics, the 793 unit delivers cutting-edge connectivity with fully integrated Cat electronics featuring 100 Mbps, two-wire ethernet connectivity for faster data transfer, improving access to key machine information.
The new 793 mining truck also shares a common cab and next-generation technology as the 785 and 789 models, offering the same familiar driving and operating experience. Two conveniently located 10in screens, for example, consolidate all machine data, controls and guidance information, and applications such as Cat MineStar, to reduce the number of required displays.
Designed to last more than 100,000 hours, the 793’s long-life frame features mild steel to provide flexibility, durability, and resistance to impact loads. Moreover, the truck’s frame, powertrain, engine, and components have been specially engineered to be rebuilt.
