Volvo CE launch new B-series compactors

Volvo SD115B soil compactor

Latest SD75B, SD115B and SD135B soil compactors offer high levels of performance, comfort and fuel efficiency

THE new SD75B, SD115B and SD135B soil compactors from Volvo Construction Equipment, powered by Tier 4 Final/Stage IV-compliant engines, have been specially designed to provide maximum versatility and performance in the most arduous work conditions.

Volvo’s advanced drum control system, for example, allows the operator (via an easy-to-use console) to adjust the frequency and amplitude, to compensate for changing soil types and conditions. High or low amplitude can be selected to adjust the drum’s dynamic force based on the job and material depth, while the optimized centrifugal force and auto-vibration feature enhances performance, ease of operation and productivity.

The traction system on the new Volvo B-series compactors provides exceptional climbing and traction capabilities in difficult applications, such as steep inclines or slippery surfaces, preventing wheel or drum spin for increased gradeability, performance and productivity.

The machines can be set up in three different configurations and are available with either a smooth drum or padfoot drum. They can also be quickly and easily converted from a smooth drum by clamping on a padfoot shell – further improving versatility.

Volvo’s Eco mode now comes as standard on the SD75B, SD115B and SD135B models, giving the compactors the ability to achieve up to a 40% reduction in fuel consumption by matching engine speed with operation mode. In addition, the machines provide quicker ramp-up speeds at lower pressure for better fuel economy.

The B-series units all come with a ROPS/FOPS-certified operator cab that features floor-to-ceiling glass for a wider view of the jobsite with clear sightlines down to the forward drum, whilst the fully adjustable seat rotates and slides to further enhance visibility and comfort. A new high-tech colour operator display, which shows operational information and key diagnostics, is easily visible at all times.

According to Volvo, the new SD75B, SD115B and SD135B are some of the most robust and durable soil compactors on the market, providing superior uptime and long service life. The heavy-duty drum, centre joint and front frame components are engineered and manufactured for longevity and performance.

A tilting cab is standard on the compactors to provide easy service access to all hydraulic components. The engine hood lifts electrically for extensive ground level access to the engine compartment. Maintenance and inspection can, therefore, be conducted more efficiently with minimal downtime – increasing overall productivity and reliability.
