Volvo CE appoint new CEO
Patrick Olney appointed as new chief executive officer of Volvo Construction Equipment
PATRICK Olney has been appointed to the role of president and chief executive officer of Volvo Construction Equipment, with effect from 1 May 2011. He succeeds outgoing Volvo CEO, Olof Persson, who is leaving to take up a new position as deputy CEO of AB Volvo from 1 May 2011, and the role of president and CEO of AB Volvo from 1 September.
Mr Olney has extensive experience spanning 17 years in the construction equipment industry, 10 of which were in senior management roles within Volvo CE. During 2001–2004 he was the chief financial officer of Volvo CE, before being appointed as president of Volvo Motor Graders, a position he held until becoming president of Volvo Road Machinery in 2007. Since 2009 Mr Olney has been executive vice-president and head of global operations at Volvo CE.
Volvo CE’s outgoing CEO, Olof Persson, commented: ‘I am very pleased with Pat Olney as my successor. He has a long and extensive experience in the construction equipment industry and has been instrumental in putting Volvo CE’s new strategy in place.’
Meanwhile, Eberhard Wedekind has been appointed as executive vice-president, sales & marketing, at Volvo CE, with effect from 1 May 2011. Reporting to Pat Olney, Mr Wedekind will be based at Volvo CE’s headquarters in Brussels, Belgium, and will succeed Scott Hall, who is leaving Volvo CE to take up the position of president of Volvo Rents, in Shippensburg, North America.
Mr Wedekind has 16 years’ experience in a number of senior roles within the company. He was vice-president marketing & sales within the Compact Equipment Business Line, senior vice-president Global Marketing and senior vice-president Processes and Systems, both at Volvo CE headquarters.
Since 2005 Mr Wedekind has been president of Region Asia, based in Singapore, where he has successfully led the business in a time of tremendous growth, market share gain and increased profitability.
Commenting on Mr Wedekind’s appointment, Pat Olney said: ‘Eberhard brings a wealth of experience of our business from a variety of roles in Volvo CE. In addition to his wide experience in the sales and marketing area, he has also recently led the important growth of our business in Asia.’
