Towens of Weston choose Hyva tipping cylinder

Company takes delivery of new trucks equipped with versatile FC137 tipping gears

TOWENS of Weston have purchased five new top-spec tippers which have all been carefully configured to offer the highest levels of versatility, productivity and performance. According to Nick Towens, operation director, Hyva’s separate ram and tank FC137 tipping cylinder was the obvious choice of hydraulics to meet the above key operating objectives.

‘We already know Hyva well by also running their skiploaders and hookloaders,’ said Mr Towens. ‘Across their range Hyva products have proven to be tough, durable and inherently reliable. As such, their tipping gears were the easiest possible choice for our latest five tippers.’

Looking particularly striking in their smart black and yellow livery, Towens’ new 420hp Volvo FMX chassis also feature hub-reduction rear axles giving the tippers the ability to handle any type of work – on or off-the-road. Completing each vehicle’s specification is a Charlton SuperLite curved floor steel body with an air-operated tailgate, combining low unladen weight with true multi-purpose versatility and functionality.

Easy to install and maintain, the FC137 – at 450kg – is one of the lightest tipping gears on the market, offering a lift capacity of 32 tonnes, thereby making it capable of handling a wide range of 8x4 applications.

Based in Weston-Super -Mare, the company’s tipper work is currently busier than ever, with the five new trucks bringing Towens’ tipper fleet up to a total of 27 vehicles. The operator also runs another 20 trucks, including skiploaders, hookloaders and artics with ejector trailers.

Reflecting on the latest quintet of new vehicles to join thee fleet, Mr Towens commented: ‘We spec our trucks highly because they need to be able to go anywhere and carry anything, whilst always operating with the maximum possible reliability, efficiency and safety. Additionally, we are looking for our trucks to give us a 10-year operating life.

‘Using Hyva equipment across all our main vehicle types has proved highly successful, not just in terms of their proven performance but also in terms of optimal aftersales support and easier administration.’
