Top health and safety award for Imerys
IMERYS Minerals’ Trebal Refinery in Par, Cornwall, has won the Mining & Quarrying Sector award in the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) Occupational Health & Safety Awards 2007.
To be judged best in sector, contenders have to demonstrate outstanding approaches to issues such as director leadership, workforce involvement and the use of professional services.
Tom Mullarkey, RoSPA chief executive, said: ‘Winners of this year’s sector awards and other major trophies have demonstrated commitment to preventing accidents and work-related ill-health and have not only saved lives and reduced injuries, but also contributed to business excellence.
‘Sector award-winners stand as a beacon to other organizations and I urge others to learn from and emulate their achievements.’
Other award winners included CEMEX UK, who this year received a President’s Award in recognition of their Eastern Region’s 10 consecutive years of Gold Awards. In addition, other companies in the mining and quarrying sector picked up 13 Gold and two Silver awards, one Gold Medal and an Order of Distinction.
