Terex unveil TA400 articulated dumptruck

The new Terex TA400 articulated dumptruck is said to offer powerful performance in the 40-ton truck market with a combination of high torque, high horsepower, high capacity and the highest top speed in its class.

Designed to work on sites ranging from sand and gravel quarries to coal mines and road construction projects, the TA400 has a payload capacity of 38-tonnes and a heaped capacity of 23.3 cu m. It has a maximum torque of 1,350Nm at 2,100 rev/min, and with six forward gears and one reverse in addition to a two-speed drop box, the TA400 can travel up to 60km/h.

The TA400 truck offers all of the standard Terex features and benefits, including a Tier 3-compliant, fuel-efficient 336kW diesel engine, maximum rim-pull and gradeability for negotiating inclines, as well as a large body capacity with low body weight to maximize load size and retention.

All three axles on the Terex TA400 provide 6x6 drive with locking differentials, and are also equipped with oil-cooled, wet disc brakes on all six wheels. Retarding is supplied by a standard engine brake and transmission retarder to ensure maximum control in loaded, downhill hauls.

The TA400 comes equipped with state-of-the-art computerized systems that communicate to each other through a CAN-bus system, which helps ensures that the truck is running at peak efficiency.

A particular feature of the TA400 is a four-bar trailing arm suspension system that allows operators to travel faster and more comfortably on difficult terrain. The TA400 also has a new ergonomic cab designed to give the operator the ultimate behind-the-wheel experience. All instruments are positioned in logical groups to assist with drivability and functionality. The TA400 is designed to give operators total comfort and control with updated interior aesthetics in anthracite gray, reduced interior cab noise levels for an improved working environment, new control positions and steering wheel for ease of operation, improved air conditioning capabilities for better temperature control, a high-quality sound system and new mirrors to provide good visibility.

Maintenance has also been simplified on the TA400 with an electric opening hood and ground level access to the major components. Mechanics can easily complete under-hood service due to wide platforms on both sides of the engine.
