Tarmac secure Nottinghamshire highways contract extension

Company secures two-year extension on annual highways maintenance contract with Nottinghamshire County Council

TARMAC have been awarded a two-year extension on the annual £12 million highways maintenance contract with Nottinghamshire County Council. The company originally secured the contract in April 2013 for an initial period of five years, with the possibility of three further extensions to March 2023.

Following successful delivery of a number of major projects, Tarmac have been awarded the first extension, to April 2020. This will see the business deliver a range of highways maintenance works, including road resurfacing, gully cleaning, street lighting, road marking and earthworks.

Since 2013, the partnership between Tarmac and the County Council has delivered more than £2 million in annual cost savings. These efficiency gains have been reinvested by the local authority into other local road improvement initiatives, such as maintenance, additional drainage works and other highway schemes.

The highways maintenance contract includes a commitment from Tarmac to support and invest in the local economy, delivering 90% of the work using local workforce and suppliers.
