Swiss dealer offers ‘carbon neutral’ Volvo ADTs

GoGreen Volvo A25G ADT

Customers can show their care for the environment by buying a ‘GoGreen’ articulated hauler from Robert Aebi

INDEPENDENT Swiss dealers Robert Aebi are offering Volvo customers a chance to show their care for the environment by buying a ‘GoGreen’ articulated hauler – produced in the construction industry’s first manufacturing plant powered entirely by renewable energy and issued with a carbon-offset certificate from the Fair Recycling foundation for the shipment from Sweden to Switzerland.

The ‘GoGreen’ package from the Swiss dealer is allowing customers to make a contribution to protecting the environment with the purchase of any new Volvo articulated hauler. The package includes a warranty extension and a selection of service options, but most importantly, a carbon-offset certificate from Swiss climate-protection foundation Fair Recycling.

The certificate covers the transport of the machine from the factory in Sweden to the job site of the customer’s choice, plus a certain number of operating hours.

To signify their climate-conscious credentials, articulated haulers sold with the ‘GoGreen’ package will feature a special decal reading ‘My hauler is green’ in German, French or Italian, according to customer preference, above an endorsement from Fair Recycling. The entire machine can also be painted green on request.

‘Our customers are not only looking for machines that are quieter, more economical and more efficient; they also want us to take responsibility for the world around us,’ said Roger Schenk, business unit leader for construction at Robert Aebi. ‘A certain amount of carbon emissions is still unavoidable in today’s construction industry, even with the latest technology, but there are things we can do to help.’

As part of Robert Aebi’s move to become more engaged in climate and environmental issues, the dealer has signed a three-year agreement with Fair Recycling. Behind every carbon credit certificate issued by the foundation for the Volvo ‘GoGreen’ articulated haulers will be a refrigerator.

Fair Recycling works to combine education with the practical recycling of refrigerators containing harming CFC greenhouse gases. Each refrigerator recycled under the agreement will recover approximately 50kg of raw materials and save the equivalent of a tonne of CO2.

‘Environmental care and sustainability are components of a journey that always has new goals to reach. We at Robert Aebi would like to make a contribution to a cleaner future through our agreement with Fair Recycling,’ said Mr Schenk.

The journey he refers to, however, starts much earlier. All Volvo articulated haulers – from the 25-tonne capacity A25G to the 55-tonne A60H – are produced in Braås, Sweden, which in 2014 became the company’s and the construction equipment industry’s first production facility to be powered entirely by renewable energy.

The first Volvo ‘GoGreen’ articulated hauler, an A25G, has now rolled off the production line in Braås and made its way, practically carbon neutral, the Robert Aebi’s headquarters in Regensdorf, near Zürich.

‘It’s important not only to produce haulers in an environmentally friendly way, but that this same care for our world is also reflected in the marketplace,’ said Mr Schenk. ‘As Volvo CE’s business partner in Switzerland, we are continuing this value and hope that these green Volvo articulated haulers will now be at home on many job sites around Switzerland.’
