Successful combination from Sandvik

Blasting Services have taken delivery of a Sandvik Titon 500 down-the-hole drill rig fitted with Sandvik Mission DTH hammers and bits, bringing the number of Sandvik rigs operated by Blasting Services to four.

To meet the increasing demands of their customers, Blasting Services decided to invest in the self-contained Titon 500, which features an air delivery of 775m3/min at 350psi. This capacity gives the rig a flexible, high production drilling capability using 4in and 5in DTH hammers for 105–152mm hole diameters, allowing one machine to be used for several different applications.

Key features of the rig include a spacious ROPS/FOPS-certified operator’s cab with suspension seat and joystick controls. Air-conditioning/heating, CD/radio and electronic angle/depth measurement instruments are included as standard.

Power is provided by a Cat C10 engine that complies with the latest emissions regulations and features the fast fuel-save system.

The ease of loading and unloading the Titon 500 for transport between quarries has proved to be a benefit for Blasting Services. The FL 6 sized undercarriage also ensures that the Titon 500 is highly manoeuvrable, offering high levels of gradeability and tractive force on the most difficult drill sites.

The Titon 500’s telescopic boom (800mm) provides added safety and allows faster hole spotting, while 5m drill tubes mounted on a compact feed offer optimized stability and a quicker drilling cycle. The rig’s pre-cyclone can be mounted on the feed, boom or chassis to ensure that cuttings are effectively deposited away from the hole.
