Success for extractives at Proskills Awards 2010
TRAINING professionals from the extractive industry picked up no less than three awards at the Proskills Awards 2010 ceremony held on 4 November. In addition, Zakariyya Holgate of Hanson Cement’s Ribblesdale Works was a finalist in the Advanced Apprentice of the Year category.
The award for Union Learning Rep of the Year, which recognizes the work of union learning representatives and their efforts in working with employers and learners in up-skilling the workforce, went to Ronald Munro of the Mines Rescue Service.
Don Glaister, managing director of Norfolk-based Serac, received the award for ‘Training provider of the Year’, in recognition of the company’s ability to tailor its training and assessment programmes to meet unique organizational and individual learning needs.
Finally, a special ‘Outstanding Contribution’ award was presented to Hefin Jones (pictured) of Aggregate Industries, to recognize both his passionate commitment to his job over many years and also his more recent achievement in leading the creation of a suite of new asphalt business improvement qualifications – the first in the sector to be developed in the new QCF (Qualification and Credit Framework) format.
Commenting on the awards, David Sharman, chair of MPQC and Proskills board member, said: ‘I am delighted that representatives of the extractives sector have featured so prominently among the prize-winners, which is testament to the industry’s long-standing commitment to high-quality education and training.’
